The Aarhus University Research Foundation (AUFF) has just allocated funds from its NOVA program to groundbreaking research projects. The grants are awarded to researchers with innovative ideas spanning a wide range of scientific fields.

Associate Professor Eugenio Gutiérrez-Jiménez, Department of Biomedicine, receives DKK 2.5 million for the project: ‘Project Aurora: Illuminating the Early Stages of Alzheimer's Disease’

The aim of this project is to unravel the earliest stages of Alzheimer’s disease. By investigating vascular and neuronal disturbances that occur before amyloid-beta plaque formation, the project aims to identify new biomarkers and therapeutic targets. The ultimate goal is to pave the way for early diagnosis and prevention, offering hope to those at risk of this devastating disease.

Eugenio Gutierrez is also main supervisor to Maria Hovmann Andresen, who has been awarded a full scholarship to pursue a PhD in Eugenio Gutiérrez' research group Preclinical Optical Group at CFIN. Maria Hovmann Andresen's PhD project "Early Microvascular Flow Disturbances in Alzheimer's Disease" will examine how early disturbances in brain blood flow contribute to Alzheimer’s disease, with the goal of developing early diagnostic and treatment methods. The PhD project will be part of the Project Aurora.
