New face at MIB: Giulio Carraturo

PhD student from University of Bari joins MIB for 6 months.

Giulio comes from Napoli, Italy, and is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Bari under the supervision of Professor Elvira Brattico.

As part of his doctoral research, he is spending six months at MIB as a visiting student, working on an EEG hyperscanning project investigating neural and behavioral synchronization in mother–child dyads during different types of social interaction, including musical engagement. His research also aims to explore how individual factors modulate behavioral and neural synchrony across these contexts.

During his stay, Giulio will collaborate with Professor Peter Keller — who is also involved in his PhD project — to carry out EEG and video-based motion analysis. He will also work with PhD candidate Wei Wei on a MEG study examining neural responses to musical vs. linguistic surprise and funniness.

Giulio is a pianist with a classical training background, and his artistic references are Queen, Pino Daniele, Muse, Yann Tiersen, Jung, Calvino, and Maradona.
